Thanksgiving Punch

This punch was a big hit yesterday.  I loved that it was flavorful without being overly sweet.  Perfect!  For a dinner party of 18 we doubled the recipe and still had some leftover.

1/2 cup peeled, chopped fresh ginger

1/2 cup sugar

4 cups pomegranate juice

4 cups pineapple juice

6 cups ginger ale

Stir ginger, sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves.  Bring the mixture to a boil.  Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes.  Cool and strain.  Mix syrup with juices and ginger ale.  Serve over ice (we got some pebble ice from Sonic and it was awesome!).
